The Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation is pleased to announce a new scholarship established in 2014 intended to foster leadership and development in Young Canadian Cattlemen. The foundation is administering the scholarship in conjunction with the current scholarships offered by the Foundation. The Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation recognizes the importance of supporting youth in agriculture and their goals of advanced education. The scholarship program is one of the ways that the Foundation intends to support youth and the future of the livestock industry. This new scholarship is in additional support to those already offered through the Dr. Allan Dixon, and the Trevor Vance Memorial Scholarship to those involved in the beef industry and the Young Canadian Simmental Association.
The D. Allan Dixon Memorial Scholarship was set up in the memory of and in recognition of the tremendous service of Dr. Allan A. Dixon. Dr. Dixon was the President of the Canadian Simmental Association for the 1970-71 and 1974-75 terms. He passed away May 6th, 1975 and the scholarship was subsequently set up to recognize the scholastic achievement of the children of the members of the Canadian Simmental Association. The scholarship encourages them to further their education by providing financial assistance for post-secondary school studies. This scholarship is open to all youth involved in the beef cattle industry who are attending a post-secondary institution in the application year. Applicants or their parents or guardians of the applicants must be Canadian Residents.
This scholarship is set up in memory of Trevor Edward Vance, Barbara and Bennie Vance's son. Trevor lost his life in a tragic accident on August 21, 1995. The Trevor Vance Memorial Scholarship was administered by the Canadian Simmental Bells Scholarship Committee until 2012 when they requested that the Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation maintain the scholarship on behalf of them.
